When Jaime Andrade lost his Marine Corps ring on a Florida beach he doubted he would ever see it again, but a tourist who stumbled upon the ring in the white sands of Siesta Key was determined to get it back to its owner – and she had faith in Facebook.
Suzanna Rogers was vacationing with her husband in Florida when she picked up the ring on the beach over the weekend, CBS News reported.
The only clue to the owner were the letters and numbers "PLT 1041, 6-30-17" inscribed inside the ring.
Rogers deduced that must mean: Platoon 1041, from Parris Island, graduation date June 30, 2017, and with this information she set about tracking down the ring’s owner.
On Sunday she posted photos of the ring to Facebook, urging friends and followers to share her post in the hope of finding the owner before she left Florida.
The response was overwhelming and within two days she was able to meet up with Andrade, who she treated to beer and a game of pool.
“Super sweet guy!,” Rogers told ABC News about Andrade. “He was originally supposed to graduate with Platoon 1041 on June 30, 2017, but actually graduated with Platoon 2050 on July 14, 2017 after getting hurt.”
In a follow-up Facebook post, Rogers thanked everyone who shared her post about the ring.
“I knew that it was important to somebody and I know the power of social media ... I knew that I would eventually find him, I didn't think it would be when i was still on vacation,” she said, according to CBS News.
