A worker at Rouses Market in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, let teen Jack Ryan, who has autism, help him stock store shelves and a video of the special moment has gone viral with more than 11,000 likes and 6,500 shares on Facebook as of Wednesday afternoon.
Delaney Alwosaibi posted the video of her 17-year-old brother, Jack Ryan Edwards, to her Facebook page, and indicated that her brother’s condition makes it difficult for him to socially interact with others.
“We all know autism makes going out difficult,” she wrote.
But this time Jack Ryan made an “instant connection” with the super market employee.
When Jack Ryan accompanied his father, Sid Edwards, to the market, Sid noticed his son appeared interested in what was going on at the refrigerator section of the store, CNN reported.
Rouses Market employee, 20-year-old Jordan Taylor, noticed too.
"Something in the back of my mind was just like, 'ask if he wants to help you,'" he told CBS affiliate WAFB.
The video shows Jack Ryan assisting Taylor with stocking the shelves of a refrigerator unit.
“This young man took the time to slow down and allow Jack Ryan to help for over 30 minutes, guiding him as he finished his task,” Alwosaibi wrote on Facebook. “He could have ignored him. He could have made an excuse and said he couldn’t allow him to help. Instead, he let him have his moment and in turn gave my family a moment we will never forget.”
And watching Jack Ryan interact with Taylor and help in the task “was a big deal” to Edwards.
"To me, when you go to a grocery store with an autistic kid, especially when they're young, people don't understand, they're not very accepting," he said, CNN reported. "Somehow this young man reached my son ... he went into Jack Ryan's world."
It was simply another day for Taylor.
"I was just happy that I could make someone else happy and make their day," he told WAFB.
Taylor indicated he’s earning money to continue his education. On Wednesday, Alwosaibi started a GoFundMe page to help him realize that dream. By Wednesday afternoon the fund had exceeded one-third of the $10,000 goal.
Twitter users were touched by the video.
