Iswari Natarajan's class got perfect scores on their AP calculus exams, marking the fourth consecutive time the teacher at St. Mary's Academy in Englewood, Colorado, led a class to such an achievement.
"We had created a buzz for math here. That, hey, math is fun," Natarajan told CBS4 recently.
Her class of 2017-2018 took the calculus test last May and had to wait nearly two months for the results.
During that period, they had a lot of time to think about the last three classes before them that had all achieved top fives in their AP calculus exams and how they hoped they could do the same.
"We were certainly aware of it," said Mariah Horvath, one of the students, according to CBS4.
Natarajan, who was aware of the pressure that may lay on the shoulders of her classes, previously told 9News that they "were not going to worry about the scores because that was the only way to function."
In the meantime, last year's class had graduated from the all-girls' school and Natarajan was hired as the academy's new principal, but as soon as the scores were released, the girls knew about it.
Their proud calculus teacher phoned up each one of her former students to congratulate them on their accomplishment of achieving perfect scores on their AP calculus exam.
"I screamed. I cried. And, I didn't believe it," said Anna Jonsen, a student, according to CBS4.
Natarajan, who continues to teach calculus at the school, said she did not care about maintaining her sterling record, she just wanted to teach the girls.
"We are here to learn calculus, and having fun along the way was most important," she said.
