Israel used a "Mean Girls" GIF to respond to a tweet posted by Iran's supreme leader that called the Jewish state a "malignant cancerous tumor," TMZ reported.
Iranian Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei posted the tweet warning that Israel will be "removed and eradicated" from the region.
Khamenei has led the Islamic Republic of Iran since 1989 after the death of Ayatollah Khomeini and has threatened Israel numerous times before, CNN noted.
Apparently taking a "ho-hum" approach to Khamenei's latest diatribe against Israel, the country's embassy in Washington, D.C. responded with a post from the 2004 movie "Mean Girls," that TMZ called "epic."
"Why are you so obsessed with me?" reads the caption on the animated GIF of the movie’s teen queen Regina George (Rachel McAdams).
Tensions between the two countries have grown since President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of the Iran nuclear deal negotiated under the Obama administration and other countries last month.
According to The Guardian, Trump cited Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu's recent presentation on Iran's alleged secret nuclear weapons program as a prime example of why Iran could not be trusted. Trump called on Iran to end its quest to destroy Israel, the newspaper noted.
The Los Angeles Times reported last month that after Trump's decision was made public, Israeli officials said about 20 projectiles were fired at Israeli positions by Iranian forces based in Syria, with defense systems intercepting several of them.
The cheeky social media response Monday won rave reviews on Twitter.
