The iPhone 8 could have serious battery problems, if recent reports of the handsets bursting open while charging being investigated by Apple pan out.
The Mirror reported that Apple was conducting investigations after two iPhone 8 Plus owners, from Taiwan and Japan, shared pictures on social media showing the display panel splitting from the device.
According to a report shared by The Next Web, one of the faulty devices was reported by a woman referred to as Wu.
The issue arose five days after she purchased her iPhone 8, when the device was charging using the supplied cable and adaptor.
Wu said she noticed the front panel bulge and split completely away from the device within minutes.
Apple confirmed to The Independent that it was looking into the reports of the issue but declined to comment further.
It wasn’t clear what caused the damage or whether they were isolated incidents.
However, it’s reminiscent of the early stages last year when Samsung ended up having to recall the Galaxy Note 7 after multiple reports emerged that the handsets were overheating and exploding during charging.
There also have been previous reports of the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 6 Plus overheating, exploding or catching fire following issues with the lithium-ion battery inside the device, the Express noted.
