Ahoy, matey. Friday is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, and the Internet is running amok with people tapping into their swashbuckling attitudes and spewing pirate-isms.
Although celebrating a romanticized version of real pirates, the fun of talking like a pirate appears to be contagious. Even the Angry Birds posted a video of their 2014 attempts to be pirates.

Krispy Kreme jumped into the fray with an offer of a free doughnut to “any buccaneer to enter a participating Krispy Kreme and talk like a pirate,” or a free dozen doughnuts to “the landlubber who dares to wear full pirate attire.”
Long John Silver’s is offering a free piece of fish, too, if you say "arr."
Videos and posts on social media sites celebrated the day.
For those unsure of the exact parlance of pirates, other than the “ahoy mateys” and “aaarrggghhh” type of thing,
Time magazine offered up an article titled “How to Truly Talk Like a Pirate.” A few of the tips are use “me” when you would have used “my,” slur your words (because pirates drank a lot) and threaten people, because pirating was a dangerous business.
For some, though, slipping into a pirate’s vernacular won’t be as hard as for others.
And as you swashbuckle through your day, keep in mind what Mark Twain said in “Life on the Mississippi”: “Now and then we had a hope that if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be pirates.”
