Ikea announced Tuesday a recall on all models of its Mysingso beach chair after reports of injuries from Finland, Germany, Denmark, Australia, and the United States.
The chairs might collapse and cause injuries such as pinched fingers, according to The Associated Press.
A news release said the problem typically occurs after washing the fabric seat, when customers may re-assemble the chair incorrectly, leading to collapse.
Customers can return the chairs to any Ikea store by Jan. 31 for a full refund without proof of purchase.
“At Ikea, the safety and security of everyone who comes into contact with our products is of the utmost importance,” Ikea said in the release. “All of our products comply with international and national legislation as well as relevant standards. Mysingso beach chair has gone through relevant mechanical, fabric and chemical tests with approved results.”
“Upon receiving the reports a full investigation was initiated. This led to an improved design to further mitigate the incidents of incorrect re-assembly and injuries. The updated chair is planned to be available in Ikea stores from February 2017,” Ikea further stated.
In December, Ikea announced a $50 million settlement to three families whose children died when their Malm dressers tipped over and crushed them underneath. Ikea stopped selling the dressers in June after tests showed they could fall over if not attached to a wall.
