Idaho Republican Senator John McGee was arrested Sunday morning and charged with driving under the influence and vehicle theft, reports
KTVB.com.
Law enforcement sources said McGee started drinking Saturday morning at a golf course in Boise.
Resident Joe Carleton said he woke up at 3 a.m. to find his neighbor’s truck and travel trailer wrecked behind his house.
"I was awakened by the sound of my kids screaming that there was somebody out in the backyard," said Carleton, who allegedly found the senator in the back seat of the rig. "He said he was looking for the promised land. He didn't know where he was at. He was dazed and confused. He was in another world."
The owners of the stolen truck reportedly were taken aback after learning the identity of the man from responding officers.
"I thought he was kidding when he told me his name," said Joe Carleton. "I really did. I thought he was joking. He was bleeding, he had cuts all over his legs. He was barefoot. He looked like he had been in a wrestling match."
McGee, 38, represents Idaho’s 10th District and holds the state Senate’s number-four leadership position.
