In Idaho, a giant metal die reportedly washed up on shore at Lake Coeur d'Alene over the weekend, causing buzz around the town before it was removed on Monday.

The six-foot metal container appeared to wash up next to a seaplane dock near The Resort and Independence Point, KREM-TV reported.

"Either God rolled a one or rising flood waters cast a giant die into Lake Coeur d'Alene last week," Spokesman-Review writer Ryan Collingwood wrote. "The latter was confirmed after the heavy steel object was recovered by Coeur d'Alene city workers Monday morning.

"After photos of the mysterious die began to surface on social media, intrigue immediately followed," he continued.

Michele Gridley said the metal container originally washed up on her mother's neighbor's beach in 2008, but some considered the large object an eyesore, noted KREM-TV.

"We don't know where it came from, it just showed up on the beach," Chris Gridley, Michele Gridley's husband, told the television station about the box.

The Gridleys, who own a sign shop in Spokane, decided to decorate it, painting it black with white circles to make it look like a die, according to KREM-TV. But the container started floating away last week, captured by a neighbor's security camera.

This time the die landed near downtown Coeur d'Alene. City crews removed it from the water Monday.

"We'll always kind of miss it, since we always got a giggle out of it, but we never expected it to become so popular when it recently washed up by Independence Point," Michele Gridley told KREM-TV.

Many on social media found humor in the giant die washing up on the lake.
