McDonnell: 'No Republican or Democratic Hurricane'

By    |   Monday, 29 October 2012 09:23 AM EDT

Virginia Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell says he's ready to work with President Barack Obama to do whatever it takes to respond  to Hurricane Sandy as it bears down on the mid-Atlantic coast, threatening millions who may have to endure flooding, severe winds and rain, and power outages.

"There's not a Republican or Democratic hurricane. So there's no politics in this," McDonnell replied when asked on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Monday whether he could lay aside his support for Mitt Romney's presidential bid to work closely with the president to deal with the weather emergency.

McDonnell, one of Romney's key campaign surrogates, said he had spoken to both candidates and that both had suspended their scheduled appearances and other campaign efforts in Virginia for Monday and longer, depending on the length of the storm and damages that might be caused.
