Hunter Osborn, an Arizona high school student, exposed himself in the football team's yearbook photo and he's now being charged with a felony, reported
KPHO/KTVK-TV.
No one realized that Osborn exposed his privates above his uniform's waistband in the group photo last year with 68 other football players at Red Mountain High School in Mesa, Arizona.
The photo in the yearbook was distributed to 3,400 students. The photo was also used in Red Mountain football game program this past season.
Osborn, now 19, was charged with 69 misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure and one count of furnishing harmful items to minors, a class 4 felony, said KPHO/KTVK-TV.
Mesa police arrested Osborn on Saturday, according to the
Arizona Republic.
"The district is dismayed by the actions of the students involved in the photograph," said Mesa Public Schools spokeswoman Helen Hollands, according to the Republic, adding that the yearbooks have been recalled. "Their behavior does not reflect the values of Red Mountain High School or Mesa Public Schools."
Mesa Police Detective Steve Berry said the case was under investigation, adding that charges could be decreased or increased depending on the findings, said KPHO/KTVK-TV.
According to court records, Osborn told investigators he was dared into the stunt by a teammate and feels "disgusted" with himself.
A
Change.org petition started in support of Osborn sought to put the blame on school officials and others who missed the prank and repeatedly published the team photo.
"The teacher responsible for the yearbook should be fired," says the Change.org petition, which had been signed by more than 2,800 by Wednesday. "Red Mountain High School is using him as a scapegoat instead of taking any responsibility. Hunter needs to be held accountable for his actions but that doesn't mean ruining his life."
