Adolf Hitler was a regular user of methamphetamine and other drugs, according to a 47-page wartime dossier compiled by American Military Intelligence.
Crystal meth was among 74 different medications the hypochondriac Hitler took, The Daily Mail reported.
“Some [of the drugs] were innocuous, some not so innocuous, some poisonous,” Bill Panagopoulos, an American collector who discovered the dossier, said, according to The Daily Mail. “Did he develop a dependence on any of these drugs? Which of these drugs, if any, were addictive? And did he become addicted to them? I’d be interested to know what the combination of these medications would do to someone who’s otherwise in good health.”
A documentary about the German dictator’s drug use called "Hitler’s Hidden Drug Habit" is set to air Sunday, Oct. 19, on a British public service channel.
The drugs were administered under the oversight of unconventional Berlin doctor Theodor Morell,
according to The Times of Israel. The doctor provided intravenous glucose and meth when Hitler needed a shot of energy; barbiturate tranquilizers for insomnia; Coramine stimulants if Hitler was over-sedated; testosterone injections containing bull’s semen; and nasal and eye drops containing cocaine, among other drugs.
According to The Washington Post, methamphetamines were used to aid fatigued soldiers of various armies during the war, when less was known about the side effects of the meth, including insomnia, hallucinations, erratic behavior and a dulling of brain functions.
