A hiker and Hillary Clinton supporter ran into Clinton and her husband on a trail in Chappaqua on Thursday as the former White House couple walked their dogs.
Margot Gerster posted on Facebook that she was feeling “heartbroken” after Clinton’s loss on Tuesday and decided to go for a hike with her daughter and dog in Chappaqua, NBC News reported. Near the end of her hike, she ran into the Clintons, who were walking their dogs on the same trail.
“She looked wonderful. She was taking a nice peaceful hike with her dogs,” Gerster told NBC News. “All I wanted to do was hug her.” Bill Clinton took the picture of the two that Gerster later posted on Facebook.
Gerster also said in her post that she was happy to get to tell Hillary Clinton that she was proud to have voted for her, saying that it was one of the proudest moments of her life. She said Clinton thanked her and they made small talk before going their separate ways.
“She was taking a nice, peaceful hike through the woods,” Gerster later told CNN. “I don’t think she wanted to talk serious politics.” She also told CNN she posted the photo to “make people smile.”
“It was a very dark day yesterday, I just feel like the fact I ran into Hillary while I was trying to clear my head, was sort of like a hopeful sign,” she added.
The Clintons live in Chappaqua, which is about 40 miles north of New York City.
