Hillary Clinton’s appearance at the Broadway musical “The Color Purple” on Sunday received several standing ovations.
Video footage showed people applauding Clinton and one person snapping a quick selfie with her as she entered the auditorium, according to the Washington Post.
People sitting above in the balconies even leaned over to take pictures.
Audience member Jordan Serpone told The New York Times that seeing Clinton was emotional for him.
“I was having every emotion I’ve tried to get rid of over the past few weeks,” he said during intermission. “She shouldn’t be here. She should be planning her cabinet.”
Former President Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea also attended the show.
After a cast member of the show acknowledged Clinton, the sold-out crowd erupted into more standing ovations.
“There’s a lot of really awesome famous and notable people here today,”
said Actress Patrice Covington, who gave the farewell speech on behalf of the cast after the show, per The Times.
“I’m not going to call all of them out – I know you already know them,” she said, before pausing and looking at Hillary and then waving. It was then that the crowd erupted into another standing ovation.
Vice President-elect Mike Pence was booed by a crowd when he attended “Hamilton,” another Broadway show, according to NBC News, and cast members took the opportunity to berate Pence during their curtain call.
