Heather Mosher's story is bittersweet. The 31-year-old breast cancer patient married the love of her life, David Mosher, but in a sad twist of fate, she died hours later.
"She wanted a big wedding, and in a way, this is kind of giving it to her, because she is able to shout from the rooftops that she loves Dave and is able to say, 'I'm his wife,'" said one of the bridesmaids, Christina Kara, per Women's Health.
The couple said their nuptials on Dec. 22 at the St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut, and 18 hours later Heather Mosher died.
A year ago they got engaged in another bittersweet moment.
Having met at a swing dance class in 2015, Time noted that David Mosher planned to propose to Heather Mosher on Dec. 23, 2016, but that same day she was diagnosed with cancer.
The news was not enough to sway him from his decision, and he popped the question during a horse-drawn carriage ride.
"A pair of draft horses, a carriage, and I arranged it all for that night," he said, according to Fox 2 St. Louis. "We went out on the carriage ride and I proposed to her under a streetlight."
Five days later Heather Mosher received news that her cancer diagnosis was triple negative, which is one of the most aggressive forms of breast cancer.
Although she received treatment, the cancer spread and doctors suggested moving the date of the wedding, which was set for Dec. 30, to sooner.
"I knew it was going to be the last time we were going to be together in a love way, it just seemed like the strangest funeral I've ever been to," David Mosher said, according to Fox 2 St. Louis.
