"Harry Potter" RPG footage was reportedly leaked online Monday and, while the authenticity of the role-playing game cannot be confirmed, fans believe it could be the real deal.
The footage first appeared on Reddit, where one user, VapeThisBro, posted a video of the "unannounced 'Harry Potter' RPG," which has "killing and unforgiving spells."
The content, uploaded to YouTube, has since been blocked due to copyright infringement, but VapeThisBro said he obtained the footage from "one of those mall survey groups," where he "got paid to watch" the preview.
VapeThisBro added that there was more than the single video and that it was implied the game was made for the X-Box console.
According to PCGamer, the minute-long video depicted the player character battling goblins, casting various spells and participating in some wizard-dueling.
A description shared by VapeThisBro noted that the game is a third-person RPG centered around a "newly arrived 5th year student to Hogwarts that demonstrates a latent gift for magic with a unique ability to track and identify remnants of a pottant ancient power."
The description further notes, "on your quest you will craft potions, master new spells, and discover fantastical beasts. You will battle Dark Wizards, Goblins, and other supernatural enemies and uncover the truth about your destiny - the Fate of the Wizarding World lies in your hands."
There have been ongoing rumors of a forthcoming "Harry Potter" game, which have suggested that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's subsidiary, Avalanche Studios, would lead the project's development, The Verge reported.
This came after Avalanche posted an ambiguous advertisement announcing the position for a writer with "a deep understanding of British culture" to work on an RPG with "branching storytelling."
However, there has been no official confirmation of the game.
