Daniel Radcliffe carved a name for himself in Hollywood after starring in the "Harry Potter" film series and now the 30-year-old actor is opening up about his time on the set of the movies based on J.K Rowling's hit novel series.
Speaking with Fox News, Radcliffe shared his most memorable moments and dished on his relationship with his castmates.
"The stuff that really sticks out in my head is a lot of the stunt stuff, a lot of the cool stunts I got to do, and just a lot of just, I don't know, the downtime hanging out on set with all my friends and the crew or in many cases some of the greatest actors of their generation," the 30-year-old actor recalled, adding that "just chilling and talking about nonsense was incredibly fun.
Radcliffe spent several years filming "Harry Potter." During his time on the set, he got to spend a lot of time with castmates and crew members. It has been nine years since the final film, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2" was released and fans often ask if Radcliffe has maintained his relationship with his fellow stars. It turns out they are not as close as many hoped they would be.
"Honestly I think that this is never the answer that people want to hear, but the people that I am actually closest to that I met on Potter are all crew members," Radcliffe said. "My stunt double, David Holmes, and people from the AD department, makeup and hair, costume, particularly, I feel like those are the people that I have stayed and remained bonded with very closely. I think the rest of us are all sort of quite busy now and often in various cities and parts of the world."
There is a bond that will forever connect Radcliffe with his castmates but it does not mean they talk every day.
"I think there is definitely, going through something as mega and weird as that at a young age together, I think means that we all have some common experience that we'll probably never share with anyone else," he said. "So I think that will bond us forever. But we're not living in each other's pockets sort of as much as people might want to hear. So I'm sorry if that answer disappoints anyone."
Most recently, Radcliffe has been working on "Escape from Pretoria," a film based on the true story of two white South Africans who were held as political prisoners during the apartheid era and who formulated a plot to bust out of prison with other inmates in 1979. The experience brought Radcliffe full circle from his "Harry Potter" days as he found himself starring alongside Ian Hart, who appeared in "The Philosopher's Stone."
Radcliffe thought it was "really cool" to be working with Hart again, who he first met when he was 10-years-old.
"And I'm having that sort of experience more and more, where I'm working with people that I've worked with when I was really young and it's this really lovely full-circle thing that keeps happening now," he said.
Commenting on "Escape from Pretoria," Radcliffe explained that he was drawn to the opportunity to tell the story about "these guys who did something really audacious and amazing and crazy."
"And because they are in prison for incredibly honorable reasons," he continued, "they are political prisoners who are fighting against apartheid – so you can really root for them escaping as well, you really want them to get out. So yeah, it was an amazing story to be able to tell."
