WalletHub's 2017 list of Happiest Places to Live in the United States was released this week and California fared quite well, accounting for 13 of the top 20 cities on the list.
Fremont, California, a San Francisco Bay Area suburb with some of the best ranked schools and impressively low crime rates, is at the top of the list.
Three more California cities occupied the next three spots on the list, with San Jose, Irvine, and San Francisco finishing second, third, and fourth on the list, respectively.
Sioux Falls, South Dakota, closed out the top five, and the nation’s capital of Washington, D.C., was ranked as the 10th happiest place to live in the U.S.
In conducting the report, researchers accumulated information from 150 of the country’s largest cities, focusing on three specific categories: emotional and physical well-being, income and employment, and community and environment.
These metrics were assessed on a scale from one to 100, with 100 being the most happy.
The WalletHub analysis considered things such as sleep, depression, the hours worked by average employees, obesity, and the level of sports activity when looking at different cities.
