House to Consider Concealed Gun Bill

Lawmakers are scheduled to consider a bill today that would allow gun owners to carry concealed weapons across state lines, according to DailyCaller.com.
 

The National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act, sponsored by Reps. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., and Heath Shuler, D-N.C., allows the carrying of concealed guns across state lines into the 49 states where the practice is permitted.

The bill, which has 245 co-sponsors, is expected to be passed by the Republican-majority House in its original form, in spite of several Democratic attempts to change the legislation.

A National Rifle Association spokesman touted the move in an editorial as a bolstering of the Second Amendment.

“[S]ome states allow visiting permit holders from other states to exercise their right to carry, and some states do not,” wrote NRA legislative lobbyist Chris Cox. “As you can imagine, this presents a nightmare for interstate travel, as many Americans are forced to check their Second Amendment rights, and their fundamental right to self-defense, at the state line.”
