The group that brought attention to the state-funded website in Massachusetts that counsels teenagers on how easy it is to get an abortion Thursday urged Gov.
Deval Patrick to take it down, the Boston Herald reported Friday.
Massachusetts Citizens for Life said Thursday that it “hand-delivered a letter” to the governor “requesting that the state-funded Web site ‘Maria Talks’ be taken down immediately pending an investigation into its funding and approval.”
The group also wants an investigation in to the actual site, and that the “governor meet with representatives of the organization about this troubling matter.”
The website, MariaTalks.com, features a fictional teen, her fictional friends and a fictional obstetrician aunt, and it counsel teens that “getting an abortion is much easier than it sounds.” It’s run by the AIDS Action Committee with $100,000 annual grants from the state’s department of health.
The anti-abortion group has accused the site’s organizers of "deception by omission” for failing to discuss medical risks and glossing over realities of the pregnancy-ending procedure.
