Greg Anthony, CBS Sportscaster, Pleads Not Guilty in Prostitution Case

TV basketball analyst Greg Anthony pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of soliciting a prostitute in District of Columbia Superior Court on Monday.

According to ABC affiliate WJLA, the 47-year-old former NBA player stands accused of responding to an $80 escort on the classifieds website Backpage.com while staying at the Double Tree Hotel on Rhode Island Ave. NW on Jan. 16. The advertised escort was reportedly an undercover cop running a sting operation as part of the Human Trafficking Unit.

"You want me to dress up?" the undercover officer asked him, according to court documents.

"Oh, yeah," Anthony responded.

Anthony, a married father of four, was in town to announce the University of Maryland-Michigan State game for CBS Sports, which suspended him indefinitely after his arrest.

Danny Onorato, a high-profile lawyer who previously represented singer Chris Brown during his assault case, represented Anthony in court.

Anthony is expected back in court on Feb. 11.

Some local courthouse reporters said that Anthony will likely be put into a diversion program, which would pre-empt a trial, and assign him to community service and other requirements.

In a similar but unrelated story, Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp was arrested Monday for allegedly soliciting a prostitute. Whereas Anthony's contract was suspended indefinitely, Sapp's commentator contract with the NFL Network was terminated upon his arrest.
