“Greenery” is Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2017, symbolizing hope and nature, according to the Pantone Color Insitute.
“We know what kind of world we are living in: one that is very stressful and very tense,” Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone Color Institute executive director, told The New York Times. “This is the color of hopefulness, and of our connection to nature. It speaks to what we call the ‘re’ words: regenerate, refresh, revitalize, renew.”
“Every spring we enter a new cycle and new shoots come from the ground,” Eiseman added. “It is something life affirming to look forward to.”
The color green, for years, has represented a massive movement surrounding the importance of protecting our environment by “going green.”
“We’re more conscious about the environment and protecting the planet,” said Laurie Pressman, vice president of Pantone Color Institute, per CNN Money.
Pantone chooses a color each year that it believes will fare well with “fashion, products, design and life,” CNN Money reported.
“We’re [even] looking at street art, animation, architecture, movies and headphones,” Pressman said. “We capture a snapshot of what’s being expressed through color.”
The company describes greenery as “a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.”
“It’s the green that signals vitality, energy and warmth from the sun,” Pressman said.
Pantone went against the grain last year, selecting two colors for the 2016 Color of the Year; baby blue and dusty pink.
