"Mythbusters" former host Grant Imahara died Monday at age 49 from a brain aneurysm, according to reports. The Discovery Channel show saw experts using scientific methods to test various myths and rumors.
The channel confirmed Imahara's death in a statement to TMZ.
"We are heartbroken to hear this sad news about Grant," a spokesperson said. "He was an important part of our Discovery family and a really wonderful man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family."
Imahara was an electrical engineer by trade and co-hosted "Mythbusters" from 2005 to 2014. Two years later he co-hosted the short-lived Netflix show "White Rabbit Project."
Adam Savage, who worked alongside Imahara on "Mythbusters" expressed his shock at news of his death on social media.
"I’m at a loss. No words. I’ve been part of two big families with Grant Imahara over the last 22 years," he wrote to Twitter. "Grant was a truly brilliant engineer, artist and performer, but also just such a generous, easygoing, and gentle PERSON. Working with Grant was so much fun. I’ll miss my friend."
Fans also honored Imahara on social media.
"Such terrible news. My family and I got to meet him in person at the World Maker Faire a few years back. He was funny and gracious. My Make article appears in issue #39, and he was on the cover, so he signed it for me. We will miss his inspiration. Our condolences to his family," one Twitter user wrote.
"That’s such a terrible loss, I wasn’t great in Physics back in High School but Mythbusters is really a part of what made me work harder. He will be truly missed," another tweeted.
"At a loss for words. Only hung out with Grant once, but he was so humble and kind. He was super down to Earth and fun to be around. I’ll never forget that night. Rest In peace Grant. Your legacy lives on!," a third Twitter user added.
