Grand Canyon Death: Florida Woman in Scenic Photo Later Fell From Cliff

By    |   Thursday, 14 July 2016 07:31 AM EDT

A Florida woman fell 400 feet to her death not long after posting a photo of herself on the edge of the Grand Canyon on Friday.

Colleen Burns, 35, was hiking with friends and family when she accidentally stepped off an edge at Ooh Aah Point on the South Kaibab Trail, The Associated Press reported.

Earlier, she had posted a photo of herself at the popular destination to Instagram.

Jessica Roman, who was with Burns on the trail, described the incident to WESH-TV.

"She was just, like, stepping out of the way for another gentleman to, kind of, squeeze in," Roman said. "Unfortunately, Colleen just kind of got tripped up on her own feet and fell backwards. She fell into the canyon."

"That was the longest, strangest, craziest two seconds of my life. Those last two seconds where everyone changed are so minute in comparison to all the memories I have with her."

Burns was a regional marketing director for Yelp in Orlando, The Orlando Sentinel reported.

Coworkers were in shock at the news of her death, a spokeswoman told the newspaper, adding that "to say we're heartbroken is a severe understatement."

Friends described Burns as ambitious and fun.

"She found something she loved and she would jump right in," her friend Meghan Patricia told the Sentinel.

Burns had two Yorkshire terriers and a close relationship with her parents and brother.

Twitter users shared many condolences and memories.
