Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s staffers say they are mulling the challenges their boss would face in now entering the Republican presidential nomination battle -- whether he has time to raise sufficient cash and how he would fare in Iowa, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

perry run president"It saddens me when sometimes my fellow Republicans duck and cover in the face of pressure from the left," Perry said, referring to the GOP riff over how much to focus on such social issues as abortion or gay marriage. "Our party cannot be all things to all people."

"Perry probably swallows up the rest of the air in the race," said John Ryder, a member of the Republican National Committee from Tennessee. "He would give Romney a run for it."

Meanwhile, Perry’s team is reaching out to large contributors – as polls continue to show significant dissatisfaction among Republicans over the existing gallery of candidates.

In a Wall Street Journal/NBC News survey, 45% of GOP primary voters said they were satisfied with the current field of candidates. This is well below the 73% who said they were satisfied at about this time in the last presidential cycle.
