A Goodwill projector purchase in Georgia included a family’s old slides, and the woman who bought the item for $15 would like to return them to their original owners.
Kristie Baeumert bought the vintage projector during her weekly treasure hunt at a Goodwill in Tyrone, Georgia, and found a box of slides with it as she was paying for the item, CBS News reported.
She studied the pictures to find out who they might belong to, but found only a few clues, CNN reported. One image shows a long plane with the words “Wake Island” written on the slide, which suggests the family may have been a military one.
The projector's slides also pictured African-American adult women and girl children, who also were pictured with a few Caucasian children as well. The automobiles pictured were from the late 1950s, which helps date the slides to that time period or later and identify the family as middle to upper income, CNN reported. The children are usually dressed formally, even on the beach or playing outside or are wearing matching outfits. The women are dressed in gowns and party dresses, furs, and pearls.
In a Facebook post that's been shared more than 3,300 times, Baeumert posted some of the pictures to try to find the owners of the slides. The box of slides was labeled only “Kansas.”
“I’ve heard from people from all over the world at this point,” Baeurmert said, CBS News reported.
Summer Dunham, Goodwill spokesman for North Georgia, said there are almost 60 donation centers in the region and that the projector could have come from any of them, CNN reported.
“I love these pictures, I feel like I know this family at this point,” Baeurmert said, CBS reported. “I really hope I get that moment to hand them over.”
