New versions of Apple’s 9.7-inch iPads, expected to be unveiled this month, will be available with a
gold-colored rear metal cover, similar to the iPhone 5s, Bloomberg News reported.
Sales of iPads have declined for the past two quarters, and the company has used color to boost sales in the past, most notably with its colorful iMacs introduced in 1999.
The company also is expected to unveil a larger, 12.9-inch iPad next year.
Sales of iPads saw double- and triple-digit growth for four years, but have slowed to 6.5 percent growth.
In addition to coming in gold, the new iPads also may offer the Touch ID fingerprint sensor and
Apple Pay functionality, according to The Guardian.
