Author and Christian mom blogger Glennon Doyle Melton has announced to her 645,000 Facebook followers that she is dating someone new — soccer champ Abby Wambach.
Melton made the announcement Sunday on her Facebook page with a photo of the couple together, saying, "Oh my God, she is so good to me. She loves me for all the things I’ve always wanted to be loved for. She’s just my favorite. My person."
The blogger and mother of three is best known for writing the 2014 New York Times bestseller “Carry On, Warrior: The Power of Embracing Your Messy, Beautiful Life.” Melton also wrote a memoir, “Love Warrior,” which became an Oprah Book Club pick.
Melton announced three months ago that she was divorcing her husband of 14 years because of his infidelity. Similarly, Wambach announced two months ago that she was divorcing her wife of three years after the soccer star was arrested on a DUI that forced her to confront years of addiction to alcohol and drugs.
Melton acknowledged in her post that the relationship developed quickly but said her ex-husband was happy for her and that they were like a “big happy family” doing things together with their three children.
Melton alluded to the recent U.S. presidential election and its aftermath in her Facebook post, saying, “Feels like the world could use all the love it can get right now.” Melton also stressed that she was modeling what she wants for her followers — being themselves, being comfortable with who they are so that they aren’t overly concerned with what others think of them.
Melton has long voiced her support for same-sex couples and marriage, so her new relationship doesn’t signal a change in position.
The relationship shocker comes weeks after "Eat, Pray, Love" author Elizabeth Gilbert announced she was leaving her husband to be in a relationship with her female best friend.
