Former WWE superstar Glenn Jacobs, 51, won the Republican Party primary race for a mayoral seat in Tennessee on Tuesday.

In a final tally posted on the county's website, Jacobs, known during his wrestling career as Kane, squeaked by Knox County Commissioner Brad Anders by a razor-thin 17-vote margin, 14,633 to 14,616.

"[The results were] about the people of Knox County making a statement,” Jacobs told Knox News on Tuesday. “You know, my opponents are fine men, but they’re in the government right now and I think someone like me coming in and bringing fresh perspectives and new ideas is something that people look forward to."

Jacobs declared himself the victor late Tuesday night on Twitter, and thanked everyone who helped drive the win home for him.

The vision of Jacobs as a buttoned-down and slicked-back politician is an about-face from his wrestling days under the Kane moniker.

In those days he was described as “a monstrous abomination that seems to have been extracted directly from your childhood nightmares,” his WWE bio announced.

Jacobs follows other WWE superstars who gravitated from the wrestling ring to the political arena such as Jesse Ventura, who served as Minnesota’s governor from 1999 to 2003.

Congratulations poured in on social media.

And at least one wondered how straight-laced Jacobs would be as mayor.
