Gisele Bundchen clarified her postgame Super Bowl comments to her crying children – that the Patriots "let" the Eagles win – after die-hard New England fans and sportswriters piled on the super model wife of quarterback Tom Brady.

Bundchen was just trying to console Benjamin, 8, and Vivian, 5, after, as everyone knows, New England lost to Philadelphia 41-33 in Super Bowl LII on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. For the record, it was the Eagles first Super Bowl win and their first NFL title since 1960.

"They haven't won in a million years," Bundchen had told her children, USA Today had reported. "Just this time. Daddy won five times. They never won before. Their whole life, they never won a Super Bowl. You have to let someone else win sometimes.”

The comments stirred criticism on social media and in other corners, Boston.com reported.

"Everyone knows the Patriots fought to win and it didn't go their way," Karol Markowicz, of Fox News said. "It would have been far better for Bündchen to say that. Comforting children after they don't get something they really wanted, or when they suffer a loss, is complicated. But it's important to give kids the tools to handle that kind of adversity."

Bundchen responded to the criticism Wednesday on Twitter.
