Neither Republicans nor Democrats want a “genuine” conservative to win the presidential election, Rush Limbaugh said today on his radio show. The “attack” on front-runner Newt Gingrich — or any GOP candidate who threatens Mitt Romney — is the proof, Limbaugh said.
“It’s like clockwork,” he said of attempts by “coordinated Republican establishment media” to upbraid not only Gingrich, but also Herman Cain, Rick Perry, and Michele Bachmann. “It’s becoming predictable.”
Limbaugh, who said he’s not defending Gingrich and has not endorsed a candidate, believes the Republican Party wants Mitt Romney on the ballot, while the Democrats prefer Gingrich.
“There are five hit pieces on Newt Gingrich today that come from Republican establishment conservative media,” he said. “Do you really, at the end of the day, prefer Obama to Newt? I would rather have any of these people in there than Obama. What are we talking about? Do we want to become Europe?”
