Ginger emojis for people with characteristics of reddish hair are appearing on the internet this week alongside more than 150 other new symbols, including cupcakes, superheroes, bagels, toilet paper and kangaroos.
The Unicode Consortium, the group responsible for emoji standardization, announced earlier this year that 157 new emojis would be included in its Emoji 11.0 list and that update finally starts rolling out on Tuesday, Business Insider reported
The update also gives options to change the hair color and styles of the man and woman emoji as well as the gender and skin tones of the new superhero and supervillain emoji, Unicode said.
There will also be symbols for skateboarding, pirate flags and even microbes, in case you want to communicate about single-celled organisms via emojis.
The update comes ahead of World Emoji Day, which is unofficially celebrated on July 17.
Last year the event became a top trend across the internet as people celebrated the world over, with everyone from celebrities to companies joining in the fun.
There has been a move for emojis to be more politically correct to better reflect the broad spectrum of users.
Earlier this year Apple proposed symbols for people with disabilities, noting that by “diversifying the options available” to this section of the community it would help “fill a significant gap and provides a more inclusive experience for all."
Those new emojis include service dogs, people using wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs, a person using a white cane, as well as an ear with an attached hearing aid.
Apple also led the way in diversity in 2015 by introducing 300 new emojis that included racially diverse and gay family and couple icons.
