German Rapper Deso Dogg Has Become ISIS Terrorist, US Says

German rapper Denis Cuspert, known as “Deso Dogg,” has been added to a U.S. terror blacklist and identified as belonging to an ISIS group since 2012.

Cuspert, 39, now goes by the name Abu Talha al-Almani, and has been shown in videos associated with ISIS, NBC News said.

The rapper is "emblematic of the type of foreign recruit" ISIS wants, the State Department said, according to NBC, adding that he is a "willing pitchman" for the organization's "atrocities" and was tapped as a "foreign terrorist fighter and operative."

The German government is seeking Cuspert on suspicion of terrorism activities and last year put together an analysis of the process used to radicalize him.

The report said Cuspert rapped about “welcome to my world full of hate and blood” and became popular as a radical preacher recruiting followers for ISIS, NBC said.

Cuspert was seen in one video holding a severed head.

“The U.S. decision to designate a European citizen as a ‘global terrorist’ is rare, and came as German Chancellor Angela Merkel was visiting Washington,” Fox News said. “The action bans Americans from doing business with Cuspert and freezes any of his U.S. assets. But it is more likely a formality, as Cuspert is unlikely harboring plans to leave the Islamic State’s so-called caliphate alive.”

In 2013, Vice reported Cuspert converted to Islam after he was involved in a bad car accident. At the time, rumors were rampant that the rapper had been injured or killed fighting for the Syrian opposition.

“Both Deso Dogg and Fadl Shakr (a Lebanese singer) have become cult figures on Salafist web platforms,” Vice wrote in 2013. “On the official Facebook page of one particular Saudi Sheikh with over 147,000 followers/'likes,' two individual posts regarding the odd couple have gained a total of over 7,500 'likes' and 3,500 shares from people across the globe.”
