George Watsky Stage Dive Injured 2, Prompting Apology From Rapper

Rapper George Watsky took to his Facebook page Monday to apologize for injuring two fans in a stage dive when he leaped from a tall piece of lighting equipment during a Sunday concert.

“I jumped off an extremely tall lighting tress during my last song … The fall broke a girl's arm and hurt another guy,” the singer wrote on Facebook. “I'll be going back in the morning to try to apologize, but I wouldn't blame the guy if he spits in my face. The jump was not awesome, it was not badass, and it was not ballsy. It turned what should have been a great day for the people who got hurt into a nightmare. It was stupid and wildly irresponsible, plain and simple.”

Watsky, 27, went on to explain that his jump, which MSN Music reported was from a 35-foot-high rig, during the Warped Tour London wasn’t because he was on drugs or drinking. He talked about how he was scared of daring things as a young person and he’s apparently been trying to over-compensate.

“I have no excuse for my actions, and the only way I can explain my mindset is that it was a huge overreach in the heat of the moment. … In the last year of touring, I've done increasingly risky things, maybe pushing myself by some dumb sense I am conquering my early timidity,” he said on Facebook.

MSN Music said the Sunday show had to be halted to take the two injured fans and Watsky to the hospital. In his post, the rapper said he would not cancel any of the six remaining tour dates.

On the MSN article, at least one person was impressed with Watsky’s apology, which was long and heartfelt.

“While what he did was really stupid, I have to give him props for giving a REAL apology instead of a non-apology, which seems to be the trend nowadays,” a commenter wrote. “You know what I’m talking about: ‘I’m sorry if anyone was offended by what I said or did.’ Rather than ‘I’m sorry about what I said or did.’”
