Garth Brooks Stops Concert, Serenades Fan With Cancer

Garth Brooks stopped his concert in Minneapolis to serenade a fan fighting cancer and the emotional tribute has gone viral with more than 2.5 million YouTube views since being posted over the weekend.

Teresa Shaw told KARE-TV she had traveled from Iowa with her 19-year-old daughter to attend the concert at Minneapolis' Target Center where Brooks was holding a string of sold out shows. She said she asked ushers if she could move closer to the stage so Brooks could see her sign that read, "Chemo this morning, Garth tonight. Enjoy the dance."

Brooks was performing his song "The Dance" when Shaw said she was tapped on the shoulder by an usher.

"The next thing I knew, another usher was coming up to me and were like, 'follow us,'" Shaw told KARE-TV. "And they took me to the very front, right in front of him."

Shaw told the television station that Brooks, whose mother and sister died of cancer, walked over and began singing to her and then handed her his guitar, kissed her forehead, took her sign and held it up and said, "You have all my strength, you have everybody's strength in here, and you go kick cancer's a**!"

Shaw told KARE-TV that she has been fighting Stage-3 breast cancer for the past five months and will have surgery next year. The television station reported that Brooks was so moved by the sign that he posted it next to his dressing room at the Target Center.

"I was just hoping he would see (the sign) and maybe if I could get him to get it signed," Shaw told KARE-TV about getting the guitar. "To give away something like that is just remarkable, and now if I ever have a bad day, I can always go look at his guitar and get inspiration."

Brooks is wrapping up a record-setting string of concert dates at the Target Center that will conclude Saturday. He had sold 188,000 seats for those shows as of last month, topping his record of 183,535 tickets for 13 shows he sold for 13 shows he did in the Chicago area in September.
