The "Game of Thrones" prequel is set to start filming this October in Northern Ireland, where the original HBO hit series was shot, Fox News reported.
Set at the Paint Hall studios in Belfast, the upcoming show will take audiences back 1,000 years before the events of "Game of Thrones."
An unnamed Paint Hall source confirmed the news to the Belfast Telegraph.
"This is fantastic news for everyone at the studio — from the cast and the crew, right down to the riggers and the catering staff," the source said.
With the final season of the fantasy drama set to wrap up, fans are welcoming the latest edition to the series, even if none of the characters from the original cast will appear in the new show.
As "Game of Thrones" author, George R. R. Martin, explained in a June blog post, HBO has greenlit the prequel however, it was still early stages for the new production.
He emphasized that only a pilot order had come through and that there was no director, cast or title confirmed yet.
However, he noted that the show would be scripted by Jane Goldman, who he described as "an absolute thrill to work with."
HBO announced the prequel in a statement but offered no details as to when the pilot may air, The New York Times noted.
"The series chronicles the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour," premium cable channel said. "And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros's history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend … it's not the story we think we know."
