The latest Gallup survey shows that the approval rating of Congress is at 17 percent.

In the poll, Gallup asked 1,024 adults if they approved or disapproved of the way Congress was handling its job, CNSNews.com noted. Among respondents, 28 percent of Republicans and 7 percent of Democrats said they approved of the job performance of Congress.

The current approval rating falls below the overall average of 30 percent for congressional approval since Gallup began measuring it, however, Gallup noted that it was still within the average rating for the past 17 months.

According to CNSNews.com, the congressional approval has been relatively stable since January, fluctuating between 15 percent and 20 percent during that time.

For perspective, President Trump's job approval for Aug. 12 was at 39 percent.

Prior to that, his approval was at 43 percent on July 15, and at 45 percent on June 16, CNSNews.com said.

Last February, congressional job approval rose to 28 percent after Trump's inauguration, Gallup noted. However, by last April the numbers fell back down and have not been more than 21 percent since.

Of those most recently polled, 28 percent of Republicans said they approve of the way Congress was doing its job, while only seven percent of Democrats said they approved, Gallup said.

And although Republicans expressed the most widespread approval of Congress, their current rating still fell well below the 50 percent who expressed approval after Trump's inauguration.

Gallup reported that Republicans' approval bottomed out at 16 percent last August, after the GOP failed in its efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

Gallup's most recent poll closely reflects the findings of a CNN survey, which found that 18 percent of voters approved of Congress.
