A picture of fried chicken-flavored Oreos has exploded on social media over the past week, prompting some fans to rejoice and inspiring others to hold their noses.
From entertainment authority
Perez Hilton to
Eater.com, the blogosphere was enthralled and mystified by the bright yellow packaging, which displayed a drumstick foregrounded, naturally, by a blonde Oreo whose cream filling was the color of the chicken's golden brown skin.

With nearly every retweet and Facebook share, Oreo fans inevitably asked themselves, 'Is this a hoax?'
"With new flavors popping up all the time like Limeade and Peanut Butter Cup, it’s not that hard to believe there could be a fried-chicken flavor of Oreos somewhere out there,"
wrote FoodBeast.com.
It was soon discovered, however, that the picture in question had a few flaws that indicated it was Photoshopped.
"Upon closer inspection, it definitely looks like this is a Photoshop prank," said Perez Hilton, "meaning you weirdos who were actually looking forward to trying an Oreo that tastes like fried chicken are out of luck!"
For those who were let down by the news that the Oreos were faked,
Thrillest.com reminded everyone that they can come pretty close to fried chicken Oreos with L.A. chef Roy Choi's recipe for Oreo Chicken Tenders.
"By adding crushed-up Golden Oreos to his more traditional panko, parsley, salt, and pepper seasoning, Choi introduced a very slight sweetness to the tenders."
