The manhunt for Eric Frein, the at-large suspect in a deadly state police ambush, shifted over the weekend after sightings on Friday and Monday, with schools closing on Tuesday near the area he was spotted.

Fox affiliate WTXF-TV reported that all Pennsylvania schools in the Pocono Mountain School District were closed after Frein was spotted by local law enforcement around 2 p.m. near the post office in the town of Swiftwater. He was dressed in green.

"[The officer] lost visual contact with the man through the woods. A search of the area was conducted but no one was located," Trooper Tom Kelly said Tuesday morning, according to The Associated Press.

The spotting came just days after a woman reported seeing Frein with a rifle and mud-covered face in the same area.

Frein, 31, has been eluding authorities in the woods since Sept. 12, when he allegedly killed one state trooper and wounded another during a surprise attack on the Blooming Grove state police barracks.

Lt. Col. George Bivens said over the weekend that law enforcement has put a "tremendous amount of pressure on him" during the search. He said Friday's sighting prompted police to shift their search 5 miles to the southwest, and it appears they're now hot on his heels.

On Monday, state police said that blood found at two homes in the search area underwent DNA testing and are not linked to Frien.
