FreedomPAC Aligns With KC Group to Stop Tax Extension

Friday, 25 February 2011 12:10 PM EST

A Kansas City group said Thursday that it plans on raising money to defeat the extension of a 1 percent earning tax levied by the city, the Kansas City Star reported.

FreedomPAC told the newspaper that it planned to start a website called kctaxreform.com to fight against the five-year extension of the tax.

Voters go the polls on April 5 to decide on the extension.

Woody Cozad, a spokesman for the group, said the tax hurts small businesses and job growth.

“You’re going to start hearing the other side,” he said.

The group is aligned with the Kansas City-based nonprofit organization called American Democracy Alliance, which advocates for and contributes to conservative causes.

The alliance has fought other taxes in the past, including the extension of the city’s bus sales tax.

Another group pushing for the extension has already raised more than $1 million, and has spent close to $400,000 on a campaign so far.
