Samaritan’s Purse, the Christian aid organization headed by Franklin Graham, is sending 90 tons of supplies to Syrian refugees fleeing ISIS fighters.
The supplies include winter coats, blankets, socks, sleeping bags and
materials for shelters, the Charlotte Observer reported.
“We are trying to do what we can to get ahead of the winter that will be coming in just a few months,” Graham said, according to the newspaper. “It will be cold, and when I say cold, I mean getting down into the 20s with no heat. Many of these refugees, when they fled, were only able to flee with the clothes on their back, and they were not prepared for this winter.”
Many of the refugees are children, a
Samaritan’s Purse spokesman told WSOC-TV.
Franklin Graham, the son of the Rev. Billy Graham, is president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse.
Samaritan’s Purse has been working in northern Iraq since 2007, including distributing 65,000 Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts in January,
according to the organization’s website. The organization provides aid in more than 100 countries.
