Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham, remembered Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy, who died Monday at age 93, with a blog post the same day.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Truett Cathy’s family after his passing this morning,”
Franklin Graham said on the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association website. “I knew Mr. Cathy for many years and had the privilege of riding motorcycles with him. He was a fine Christian gentleman that carried his Christian business principles throughout life. His restaurants were never open on Sunday out of respect for the Lord’s day. He was kind and extremely generous and used the profits from his business to help others. He will be greatly missed.”

The post includes a four-minute video about Cathy from the BGEA archives, which talks about Cathy’s efforts to help kids, contributing millions of dollars in scholarships, supporting foster homes, and teaching Sunday school classes.
“I’m a strong believer the Bible is a blueprint and a roadmap to our life, and we’d do well to read it. Not only read it, but study it and try to interpret God speaking to us individually to give us directions,” Cathy says in the video. “We need to be reminded of God’s goodness to us. God created all of us for a purpose. It’s interesting that we get to make the final decision of God’s purpose for our lives.”
Cathy drew sharp criticism in 2012 after his son, Dan, made remarks about gay marriage to the Baptist Press. Activist groups called for boycotts and kiss-ins at Chick-fil-A restaurants after Dan Cathy said that the company was “guilty as charged” for backing “the biblical definition of a family.”
The controversy subsided, but Truett Cathy’s death sparked new criticism on social media this week.
