Frances Bean Cobain — daughter of late grunge icon Kurt Cobain and Hole singer Courtney Love — shared part of her first original song on Instagram Thursday, the 24th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death.
Cobain, 25, sang a cappella in the clip with lyrics about pain and being trapped that also wove in Jesus and the crucifixion among other topics.
“I think I saw you when I was small/I think I found you/A penny for your good thoughts/I think I found you/Jesus hangs in your place on the cross/All these hinges became unscrewed/Heaven knows it was a cage on earth,” she sang, Billboard reported. The video appeared to be removed later in the day.
The caption on her post explained that Cobain couldn’t play her guitar because her nails were too long. She also said she liked not having a TV in her house because it forced her to occupy her time “with things that feed [her] brain & soul,” Billboard reported.
Cobain has done modeling and painting previously, and has done some YouTube videos covering songs of other artists like Jimmy Eat World, but this is her first original song.
Cobain had revealed in February that she has been sober for two years, although she did not share details of her previous addiction.
“It’s an interesting and kaleidoscopic decision to share my feelings about something so intimate in a public forum. The fact that I’m sober isn’t really public knowledge, decidedly and deliberately. But I think it’s more important to put aside my fear about being judged or misunderstood or typecast as one specific thing,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.
