Fox News apologized to Sen. Kamala Harris (D-California) after photos of the senator mistakenly appeared during a segment about a suspect believed to have shot and killed a University of Utah student, The Hill reported Tuesday.

During a segment of "Fox & Friends" on Tuesday morning, host Jillian Mele named the murder suspect as Melvin Rowland just as stock images of Harris appeared, The Wrap noted.

A corrected segment ran later in the show, and Mele apologized, saying, "Now, in an earlier version of this story we showed you the wrong video. We showed you pictures of Senator Kamala Harris instead of Melvin Rowland’s mugshot. We apologize for that error."

Rowland reportedly was found dead in a church early Tuesday after allegedly shooting a female University of Utah student on campus at about 10 p.m. Monday.

The HuffPost described Rowland as registered sex offender believed to be the victim’s ex-boyfriend.
