Jennifer Lawrence has topped Forbes' list of the highest-paid actresses in the world in 2015, raking in $52 million over a 12-month period.
Lawrence was significantly ahead of No. 2 on the list, Scarlett Johansson, who
made $35.5 million, Forbes reported.
The 25-year-old "Hunger Games" actress took the No. 1 spot from 2014’s Sandra Bullock, whose earnings from the successful “Gravity” movie put her at $51 million last year.
Forbes said this is the first time the highest-earning actress list was broadened to a global field, but only one person outside the United States made the list. Chinese actress Bingbing Fan, who starred in "The White-Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom," was No. 4 with $21 million.
No. 3 on the list was comedian Melissa McCarthy, who brought in $23 million with her roles in "Spy" and "Tammy."
Income was generated not just from film roles, but also from endorsements and other businesses. McCarthy, for instance, is launching a new all-sizes clothing line.
Lawrence’s popularity and high earnings are likely to
continue; The Hollywood Reporter said she got a $20 million "exceptional" deal for her upcoming movie "Passenger," which included 30 percent of profits.
Her ranking was greeted with little surprise online:
