A Florida accountant who investigators say kept three women as sex slaves in his home has been arrested and charged in a case reminiscent of Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro.

According to the Gainesville Sun, 53-year-old Timothy Deegan is accused of keeping the women in "virtual slavery" for months while prostituting them, drugging them, videotaping their sexual encounters, and posting the clips online. He is also accused of raping at least one of the women, the newspaper noted.

The three women told police they met Deegan online last year and agreed to exchange sex for cocaine. According to MyFoxOrlando.com, Deegan then drugged his victims and forced them to have sex with him and other men.

The women also told authorities that Deegan locked them inside his Gainesville home, spied on them with video cameras, tracked them with GPS technology on their cell phones, and controlled them with threats of using homemade weapons.

"He was basically prostituting them out in exchange for the money and the sex and the drugs," Alachua County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Becky Butscher told MyFoxOrlando.com.

Deegan's alleged scheme crumbled in December when one of the women called the Alachua County Sheriff's Office saying she had found a video of Deegan raping her while she was unconscious on prescribed sleeping medication, the Gainesville Sun reported.

The accountant was arrested on a sexual battery charge and later released from the Alachua County jail on a $250,000 bond. He was then arrested in April on drug charges and, during a search of his home, police found sex tapes and booby traps.

He's now being held on $300,000 bond on three counts of human trafficking.

The Sun reported that authorities were familiar with Deegan's residence, responding to the home 11 times since June 2013 on reports of suspicious activity, Butscher told the newspaper.

The case is reminiscent of three Cleveland women who managed to escape the home of Ariel Castro last year after being held there against their will and raped for at least 10 years. Castro later hanged himself in an Ohio prison after being sentenced to life for the crimes.
