A California firefighter's house near Redding burned to the ground while he was in Yosemite battling a wildfire there. When Jason Campbell got back last week, the family home was in ashes.
The Ferguson Fire has been tearing through the western boundary of Yosemite, and that’s where Campbell was last Thursday, leading a crew to tackle that blaze, The HuffPost reported, but while he was there, the deadly Carr Fire was devouring his home and hundreds of others in Northern California
Fortunately, his wife Shyla Campbell and their two children ages 6 and 13 were safely evacuated.
Their daughter's 13th birthday was on Thursday and she had been planning a slumber party. Instead the family was forced to evacuate while the fire devoured their house and belongings.
"It’s just hard ― it’s so overwhelming, it’s hard to put into words," Shyla Cambell told the HuffPost on Monday. "I wish I would have prepared more, I should have packed more, had stuff ready, or a plan."
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family by the emergency response company that Jason Campbell works for.
While Shyla Campbell and the kids try to find a new place to live, Jason Campbell is headed back out again with his crew to fight the fires that continue to scorch the land.
