The Ferguson, Missouri, shooting in which 18-year-old Michael Brown was killed after attacking a police officer prompted a federal investigation, and the resulting report is expected to reveal this week that the local police department disproportionately targets African-Americans.
Ordered by Attorney General Eric Holder, the report contains data gathered from 2012 to 2014.
According to CNN, the report will show that, while 67 percent of the Ferguson population is black, black citizens were subject to 85 percent of vehicle stops, 90 percent of citations, and 93 percent of arrests.
Relevant to the Brown case, in which a grand jury elected not to charge the officer, was a statistic about cases in which the Ferguson police reported using force: 88 percent of those cases involved black detainees.
Also illuminated by the report are racist emails sent among Ferguson police officers and court officials.
"What black man holds a steady job for four years?" asked one email sent in 2008, joking that President Barack Obama wouldn't likely be president for long.
"An African American woman in New Orleans was admitted into the hospital for a pregnancy termination. Two weeks later she received a check for $3,000," said another joke sent in May 2011. "She phoned the hospital to ask who it was from. The hospital said: 'Crimestoppers.'"
