After a marriage proposal went awry at Fenway Park on Sunday and was shown on the big screen, the couple was likely even more humiliated when the crowd began chanting “she said no.”

A man proposed to his girlfriend onscreen just before 10 p.m. during last night’s game between the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs, but there was no happy hug, just an apparent argument and a groan from the crowd, according to The Washington Post.

After the cameraman cut away from the unhappy scene, the crowd began to chant, “She said no,” the Post reported, which had to be an even more mortifying turn of events.

Twitter memorialized the event with comments on the awkwardness, including sports columnist Ty Anderson:

Another Twitter user captured the couple arguing after the proposal.

But according to Anderson, they had been arguing even before the proposal.

Maybe the couple will be laughing about this in 50 years as an old married couple, but one Twitter user pointed out the man had paid dearly for his failed moment.

The man and woman were not publicly identified.
