FedEx Truck Accident Spills Likely Christmas Packages Along Interstate

A FedEx truck crashed in Georgia on Tuesday, spilling boxes, Netflix videos, and probably Christmas gifts along the highway.

The driver was pulling two trailers, and when one of them became loose he lost control, veering across I-75 and hitting the median, The Associated Press said. A passenger in the truck was injured and has been hospitalized.

In the Georgia wreck, just one of the trailers spilled part of its contents, and some packages were clearly destroyed.

"The driver stated that his rear trailer had a mechanical issue and he lost control, striking the median wall," Timothy Campfield, a Monroe County Deputy, told 11 Alive.

Four FedEx employees were at the accident scene, inspecting packages and cleaning up the site. In a statement, FedEx said people can track their packages online to see if they were affected by the accident or call 1-800-Go-FEDEX.

Campfield said “multiple accidents” were caused from the accident debris and the traffic congestion around the site.

This accident followed that of another FedEx truck, which overturned in New Jersey on Monday. In that one, the driver also lost control as he pulled two trailers, going off the road, down a median and landing on an exit ramp. The driver had minor injuries.

Both accidents came as the company’s stock dropped and was “one of the worst-performing stocks on the Standard & Poor’s 500 index,” reported America’s Markets.

“The reason? The company reported a 36% gain in fiscal quarter earnings. Sounds good, but it wasn’t quite as good as analysts expected,” the site said.

Lower gas costs didn’t help the company as much as expected, USA Today said.

"While the daily spot price of jet fuel declined almost 30% from the end of August to the end of November, the average monthly price we paid for jet fuel under our contractual arrangements did not change by a corresponding amount," USA Today quoted FedEx CFO Alan Graf.
